Symmonds Plains – V8′s

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

Last Sunday I went up to Symmonds Plains to watch the V8′s. My dad woke me up at quarter to 6 because we had to be ready to leave at quarter past 7. We travelled up with one of my friends and his little sister and stopped at Campbell Town to get some breakfast. I had an egg & bacon roll at subway as well as a cookie (: Then we spent another half hour in the car to get to Symmonds. It was cold and rainy and we had to walk a fair way to the gates, but when we sat down and dad bought me a hot chocolate it was all good (: First we watched the older cars race and saw a few crashes then we watched the bikes. Unfortunately they didn’t crash but one of the V8′s did! One of the jack daniels cars I think slid off the track after a turn and lost control. He slid about 100 metres without flipping the car but lost the front bit of the car! It was a great day, I really enjoyed it even though it was cold. We got home at 5 past 7. (:

Rememberance Day 2010

Friday, November 12th, 2010

On the 11th month, the 11th day, and the 11th minute student leaders from our school travelled down to our local R.S.L for Rememberance day. We stood and listened to a speech which was given by a friend’s dad, then watched the wreath laying. We then listened to the Last Post being played and the raising of the flags was done. after that we had a minutes silence to remember the soldiers who died.

Afterwards we got invited in for something to eat and drink. In other places of the world, Rememberance Day has a different name. In some countries it’s known as Poppy Day, Armistice Day, and Veterans Day. On this day poppies are worn because when there was blood on the sand, the poppies grew. This day is a sad day and it is considered disrespectful to clap during the ceremony.

Netball Trials

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

This weekend we have netball trials for our teams. We play a series of different games and the people watching us put us into a team where they think we will strive. I love netball, it has become my life. I love playing, I will do anything to make that ball mine. I don’t mind the rough contact that is sometimes displayed in a game, because I give it back twice as hard :)

I loved my team last year and, even though we didn’t win a game the whole season, it was still fun. We knocked people over, we shot goals ( Two of which I shot ) we defended well, and we sweated baha.

Can’t wait till i put on my green and gold dress again :) )))

Dealing With Anger

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

In skills for life this week we have been learning about how to deal with anger. Our teacher made us write down some of the things that make us angry, mine were:

1. Friends telling my secrets

2. Liars

3. When someone ruins something

She then asked us what happened in a recent situation where we were angry. How did we deal with this situation, was it the right way to figure it out, and if this happened again, would we act a different way?

In my recent situation I had an argument with my mum, i yelled and screamed and she took my phone off me. I ran off out into the paddock. If i was in that situation again then I would listen to my mum’s side of the story and then make my decision. Things that make me calm down are:

1. Listening to music

2. Going for a walk with my dog

3. Lying on my bed and reading

Circus Animals – Debate

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

Today at school a man called Jason Bongers came down from Canberra to talk to us about debating. He told us about the Mace which is kept in the room where they debate. He made us participate in a role play, showing us what Paliarment is like and how it works. I was made Speaker which means I said most of the things in paliarment and I was sort of like the boss. There was also a Prime Minister, Clerk, Assistant Clerk, Opposition Leader and Serjearnt of Arms.

Please Let Me Go

Friday, October 8th, 2010

In skills for life this morning we had to make a post about resolving problems. There were different things we had to write about, different problems, and we had to resolve them. Here’s mine:

Dear Ashlee,

My parents have refused to let me stay over at my friends house, they say I need to do chores before I can. My friend and I had organised something really good and now it can’t go ahead. I have thought of somethings I could do so I can go, they are:

1. Do little chores around the house so I get in their good books.

2. Cry and beg, say that it’s not fair and I need to go.

3. Agree to their decision and just stay at home.

What should I do Ashlee? Please help.

Friendship/Cars

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

One week for skills for life we watched the movie Cars. For our skills for life hook we have been looking at friendship so Cars is an excellent movie to watch. Cars is a movie based on a racing car called Lightining McQueen who is heading to the Piston Cup. He goes there in a big truck but on the way the truck falls asleep and a few other cars start bumping him, which makes Lightning fall out of the truck and land on the road. He swiftly dodges other cars but is forced down a different road. He ends up in a place called Radiator Springs and he completely trashes the town. He digs up the road, trashes the towns statue and runs into other various things in the town. The town’s mayor, Doc, makes Lightning fix the road and the town. Lightning becomes friends with an old truck called Mater and one night they decide to go tractor tipping. Tractor tipping is where a car creeps up to a tractor and beeps its horn making the tractor tip. They continued with this method for a while until Frank came. Frank was a big, angry tractor who chases the cars away. He narrowly misses them. They go back to the town where Lightning is put back in a yard. The next morning Lightening is put out to fix the road again, he finishes and The Sheriff takes him down to the dirt race track so Lightning can try to master a turn he couldn’t do when he raced Doc. Doc saw him doing this and tried to correct him in what he was doing but, Lightning being ignorant like he was, didn’t take his advice and drove off to keep practising. Later on in his turn he tried the thing Doc told him and ended up in the cactuses. After a while Lightning got friendly with Sally and they started to fall in love. They went for a drive to a deserted car hotel and drove through it. When they got back to the town a helicopter and Lightning’s truck came to get him. He didn’t want to leave or answer any questions or pose for photos like he used to, he wanted to stay with the gang, but the cars and trucks carted him away. They took him to the race track and made him race against two other cars he tied with. He did quite well and made two cars from the town his pitt crew but, during the last lap, the evil car bumped into the old race car because he didn’t want to come behind him again. The old race car crashed out and went flying ove r lightning’s head. Lightning overtook the other car, wanting to be back with his old fame and fortune but stopped dead at the finish line. The evil car zoomed past him, cheering because he had one. Lightning turned around and drove over to the other car and pushed him across the finish line. He had become a good person after a few days.

The difference between popularity and friendship is that when your popular people only like you for your fame, they bask in it. But when you have a friendship they like you for who you are, whether your famous or not. He realised that he didn’t need to be famous to have friends, people accepted him for who he was. Knowing Mater, Sally, and Doc changed him because they accepted each person for who they are, they didn’t care whether they were famous or poor. They were all treated the same. 5 characteristics that I value in a friend are:

  • Funny
  • Caring
  • Crazy
  • Kind
  • Outgoing

Part Time Work

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

This weekend i might be doing a bit of work at our local RSL. I got home from school yesterday and mum said that one of my friends’ dad came over and wanted to know if I wanted to do a bit of work with his son. I said yes, it would just mean clearing dishes and cups, and i thinking serving food aswell I’m not sure. I will get a little bit of money by doing this job and can’t wait :) It’s going to be sooooo fun
